Bathroom lighting is the one place where getting it wrong is genuinely inconvenient — a single downlight above the mirror casts shadows straight down your face, which is unhelpful for shaving or makeup.
The fix is light from the sides, or a horizontal bar above the mirror rather than a point source. Aim for fittings mounted at about eye level either side, or a bar spanning most of the mirror’s width, and choose a neutral colour temperature around 3000–4000K so skin tones read accurately.
Check the IP rating against your bathroom zones — anything near a shower or bath needs appropriate moisture protection, and it is worth confirming with your electrician.
